Drafting a brand story page for a first collection
A first collection needs a story page that explains why it exists and what to do next. This guide walks through three decisions, with one worked example, so the page persuades without overpromising.
01
Step one: choose the single thread of the story
Pick one thread that connects every piece, such as a fabric, a place, a technique or a feeling. Avoid listing all your influences. Worked example: a label launching eight pieces for Saayan chooses hand-block printing on soft cotton as its thread. The page opens with one sentence on why that technique matters to the founder, then one on how it shapes the collection's colors and cuts. Everything after supports that thread, so a visitor understands the collection in under ten seconds and can tell what makes it different from generic festive wear.
02
Step two: show the making in concrete detail
Replace adjectives with specifics a reader can picture. Name the fabric, describe where pieces are cut and finished if you know it, and explain how sizing and care work. In the worked example, the page lists the cotton weight, notes that each print has small natural variations, and gives washing instructions beside each garment. Use real photographs of samples rather than polished renders when possible. Only state facts you can support, and leave out sourcing or sustainability claims you cannot document. Honest, ordinary detail builds more trust than grand language and gives customers fewer reasons to hesitate.
03
Step three: give the reader one clear next action
End the story with a single step that suits the stage of the brand. For the worked example, that is a short waitlist form for the first drop, plus a line saying when the next update will arrive. Add a simple route for questions about fit or care. Resist stacking newsletter, shop, social and press prompts together, since choice dilutes response. After launch, return to the page and revise it using the questions customers actually ask, so the story improves with each collection rather than staying frozen at the first draft.
